The Site
The site is located at Gillings Court, Bateman’s Yard, in the very centre of Thirsk.
Gillings court was built in 1980s and provided 42 sheltered age-restricted housing units until 2019 when operator Broadacres made the decision to close the site owing to the building being considered surplus to requirements because of the building’s age, design and condition. A soft closure began in 2019 with the building eventually ceasing operation in July 2024. The building has been vacant since.
A sustainable location
The site is situated within the very centre of Thirsk, within a minutes’ walk to Thirsk town centre, and Thirsk marketplace. The site provides easy accessibility through a number of pedestrian walkways straight to the Market Square, which pays homage to the town’s medieval layout and development
