Quality Design
The proposed development is an opportunity to greatly improve the street scene at Bateman’s Yard by replacing a vacant brownfield site with a high-quality development.
Churchill have taken great care to evolve a design which utilises architectural detailing and materials found in the local area so that the proposed retirement building fits seamlessly into the townscape. This is particularly important given this site falls within the Thirsk and Sowerby Conservation Area
The emerging design seeks to reflect local architecture with a traditional design utilising locally prevalent materials and building techniques such as mutli-brick and buff brick as well as areas of white painted brick. Roofs will be provided as a mixture of red clay pantiles, or natural slate tiles. The design also incorporates black painted metal Juliette balconies The design seeks to break up the massing of the apartments presenting the building as a series of connected buildings, this is a strong characteristic of the townscape immediately surrounding the site and further toward the market square.
The redevelopment of this site will also greatly improve the local street scene with careful consideration of impact to existing neighbouring buildings, particularly the residential dwellings located at the end of Batemans Yard.

A strong record of delivery
Churchill have a strong track-record in delivering the sites on which they secure planning permissions and prides itself in delivering high quality developments that are robustly designed, costed and deliverable once planning permission has been obtained.
Two recently completed schemes in Fleet and Basingstoke demonstrate this dependability, and that we build what we get planning permission for and deliver on our promises.
